All members of the Eastern Federation of British Bird Fanciers will mark with great sadness the passing of Eddie Carter, aged 62. Eddie was one of the treue characters of his local bird keeping fraternity. In the Norfolk, Cambridge, and Lincolnshire area anyone who kept birds new him. Larger than life, salt of the earth, one of the boys, all epithets that might have been minted just for him. He really was one of our own, a good ole boy.1 Weel known in all the local clubs, Eddie was a man who seemed to make one's life a little bit fuller just by knowing him.At the Eastern Federation he will perhaps be best remembered as 'the man on the hammer' at its fund raising auctions. Never stumped for a wise crack and a cheerful word, his lively wit and banter always seemed to draw another bid. Eddie's bird shed was a model to all. Always spotlessly clean and tidy, nothing was too good for his birds. His fifes always looked a picture. He will be sorely missed. Heartfelt condolences are extended to his widow Linda. It is hoped and trusted she will keep strong links with the fancy. A further tribute has been received from Chris Smith, publicity officer for the Southern England FFCC, who writes, "Eddie was a larger than life character with a wicked sense of humour whoused to liven up cage bird society meetings and shows around East Anglia. He had developed a creditable stud of Fife fancy canaries and only just recently moved up to Champion status. He also had a passion for large American cars. This years Southern England FFCC Open Show on November $that Little Paxton will be a Memorial Show to remember Eddie. Members send their heartfelt sympathies to Linda and his children."
